Why doesn’t the world know the Truth about the Holy Spirit? What is the Holy Spirit? Did the Holy Spirit dwell in people of the Old Testament? What about Christians in the New Testament? Can one have and keep the Holy Spirit when sinning—even committing serious sins? What are the essential prerequisites for receiving the Holy Spirit? And how can we lose the Holy Spirit?

By using the analogy of chess and focusing on the pawn, we can see throughout the Bible how God chose “regular common” individuals to fulfill His purpose. At first glance, the pawn is considered the weakest piece, and it is only able to move forward; however, its significance increases as it reaches the other side of the chessboard, becoming more valuable by reaching its full potential. Just like us, we have a similar goal in life as we move forward, learning from mistakes along the way, so we can ultimately reach our goal of eternal life.

The life of a Christian is definitively not for the faint of heart. It requires overcoming obstacles, dealing with difficult circumstances, and resisting temptations every single day. To be Christian is to become comfortable doing hard things. Through the examples in the Bible we will learn about those who have gone before us, having faced difficulty, and overcome. We will also learn why it is so important to actively choose to do the difficult things that God directs us to do, because the reward that comes from doing them is great.

Gentleness or kindness is an important part of the fruit of the Spirit. It is mentioned a number of times in the epistles of the apostle Paul and elsewhere, and shows us one aspect of character that we need to apply in our relationships with both Church members and others we come across in our daily lives.
